A TEENAGER who presented to hospital with a nagging headache turned out to have a fragmented bullet lodged in his head. Juanye Jones, 19, who narrowly escaped more serious injury during a campus shooting at a Florida university on Monday evening, made the frightening discovery on Wednesday, the New York Daily News reports. Mr Jones had not sought medical treatment earlier, believing her had just been grazed on the ear. Doctors discovered the more serious injury after X-raying Mr Jones. “There was a young fellow in there, about 18-years-old,” hospital witness Wayne Saddler told thePalm Beach Post. “I thought he was in there for something minor and then the police showed up. I hear he has a bullet in his head. He had a headache and now he has a bullet in his head.” Mr Jones was one of three people struck by the gunfire at Bethune-Cookman University, in Daytona Beach. One man was grazed on the shoulder, another was hit on the knee. Police believe all three students were just innocent bystanders. The other students injured in the shooting were Keshaun Reeves and Dante Ridford, both 18.
I get it, Juanye. Nobody likes to go to the doctor. The wait is long and there’s never any good magazines in the waiting room. You need to get shots which give you autism and have to get bloodwork done. Sometimes a doctor finds a lump and now not only do you have cancer but you’re all worried about the fact that you have cancer. But I really think bullet to the brain is one of those times when you have to just suck it up and go and get things checked out. Then again I am not a doctor and this is Florida and your name is Juanye so I get the feeling we don’t play by the same rules. Maybe I’m wrong and this doesn’t constitute an emergency in the Jorts capital of America.
Either way, look on the bright side kid; you have a sick theme song now.
PS- Maybe this kid should keep the bullet in and he’ll get impervious to pain like that villain in that shitty Bond movie from the Pierce Brosnan Era.
NYT-Leonard Nimoy, the sonorous, gaunt-faced actor who won a worshipful global following as Mr. Spock, the resolutely logical human-alien first officer of the Starship Enterprise in the television and movie juggernaut “Star Trek,” died on Friday morning at his home in the Bel Air section of Los Angeles. He was 83. His wife, Susan Bay Nimoy, confirmed his death, saying the cause was end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Mr. Nimoy announced that he had the disease last year, attributing it to years of smoking, a habit he had given up three decades earlier. He had been hospitalized earlier in the week.
Not to be insensitive but who thought Nimoy would pass away before this guy:
Looking good, Captain Kirk. Admittedly, I actually never watched Star Trek. As I’ve said before I’m only an entry level nerd, so I’ll watched the gritty modern reboot but I’m not going to waste my time with some campy, space sitcom. I remember him mainly for his appearances on the Simpsons especially when he saved the day in the best Simpsons episode ever created:
All in all he seemed like a good enough guy. I may not have tuned in to Star Wars-lite but this is going to rocked the nerd world. Star Trek is such a part of nerd culture that this guy hasn’t been able to play a part beside that pointy-eared Vulcan for over half a century. The name of his two autobiographies are even “I Am Not Spock” and “I Am Spock” (see what he did there). Like it or not Star Trek had a big effect on pop culture and Nimoy was a huge part of that.
PS- With Earl Lloyd dying earlier today, Nimoy’s death institute the Celebrity Death Rule of 3. So quick, pick the celebrities you’d most like to see singing for the choir invisible.
PPS- My roommate may possibly be the only black Star Trek fan. The ultra rare black nerd.
ESPN-Earl Lloyd, the first black player in NBA history, died Thursday. He was 86. Lloyd’s alma mater, West Virginia State, confirmed his death. It did not provide details. “The NBA family has lost one of its patriarchs,” NBA commissioner Adam Silver said in a statement. “Earl Lloyd, the first African-American to play in an NBA game, was as inspirational as he was understated. He was known as a modest gentleman who played the game with skill, class, and pride. His legacy survives in the league he helped integrate, and the entire NBA family will strive to always honor his memory. Our deepest condolences to the Lloyd family.” Lloyd made his NBA debut in 1950 for the Washington Capitals, just before fellow black players Sweetwater Clifton and Chuck Cooper played their first games. Lloyd helped the Syracuse Nationals win the 1955 NBA title, joining teammate Jim Tucker as the first black players to play on a championship team. The 6-foot-5 forward averaged 8.4 points and 6.4 rebounds in 560 regular-season games in nine seasons with Washington, Syracuse and Detroit. He missed the 1951-52 season while serving in the U.S. Army. Inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2003 as a contributor, Lloyd was 22-55 as Detroit’s coach in 1971-72 and the first nine games in the 1972-73 season.
Probably not a good thing that I felt it necessary to explain who Earl Lloyd was in the title but realistically he doesn’t get near the credit that Jackie Robinson does. I would guess that most people don’t know who Lloyd was, he just doesn’t have the name recognition. Maybe that’s because Robinson did it first or because Lloyd was among 3 players to break the color barrier in the same season. The fact that basketball was about America’s 6th favorite sport at the time was probably a factor too. According to Lloyd the lack of heat played a role:
Still the guy deserves his due as the 50’s were the Golden Age for racism. The TVs weren’t even allowed to show colors back then. Paula Dean would be considered a PC nut at that time. So RIP to one of the NBA’s first great pioneers. If it weren’t for your contributions to the NBA, guys like Gerry McNamara and Adam Morrison would be perennial All Stars.
PS- What are the odds Lebron sends Earl Lloyd some posthumous twitter-love once someone explains to Fuckboy who Lloyd is?
ATLANTA-An Atlanta woman says she was attacked and badly beaten after an argument over a hamburger. Myriah Pointer, 23, said her so-called friends kicked and punched her while recording the attack. “I’m more hurt emotionally than physically,” Pointer said. “I was unconscious while they were beating me.” Pointer has two black eyes, a chipped tooth and a concussion after the women, who she thought were her friends, beat her and videotaped it. “By someone you called your best friend,” Pointer told Channel 2’s Tom Jones. “It was about a burger.” Pointer said she was hanging out with her friends at an apartment complex on Saturday when one of the women accused her of sitting on her Whopper Jr. “Like, the wrapper of the burger,” Pointer said. “Like, I didn’t even sit on her burger.” Pointer told Jones that that’s when the women started punching and kicking her and wouldn’t let her leave.
Call me crazy but I get the feeling this feud ran deeper than a 99 cent burger and a pair of ass cheeks. Someone was fucking someone they shouldn’t have been. Irregardless, that beatdown was INSANE. At a certain point when you are pummeling someone whose brain has called it quits for the day don’t you have a moment where you’re just like “ya that’s enough”. And do you know what’s a great way to get caught? Posting the video online. One of these goons had to post it themselves because I doubt Myriah here asked for a copy of the video on the way out. The real blame lies with the guy chilling on the couch. These chicks were out for blood and at some point you need to act like a referee and call the fight. I’m pretty sure I saw this chicks brain at one point.
I went to the original video on Worldstar Hip Hop and found the medical records (per Myriah Pointer):
I have fatal facial& scalp confusions, post-concussion syndrome, subconjunctival hemorrhage, and busted blood vessels!
I don’t blame her face and scalp for being confused after that whooping but it is sad to see they were fatal. RIP Myriah’s scalp. I’ll forgive her errors seeing as she’s more concussed than Billy Bob in Varsity Blues and could barely see the screen throw the slits she calls eyes now but it’s beginning to sound like she went to the same medical school as Dr. Nick Riviera.
PS- I would expect nothing less than from Burger King customers. You have to be certifiable to prefer their shitty flame broiled turds to the Arches or even Wendy’s.
Rolling Stone-After blowing away Academy Award audiences with her Sound of Music medley, Lady Gaga will return to the small screen in a much more terrifying role this October: The singer announced on Twitter that she will appear in the fifth season of FX’s American Horror Story. The Hollywood Reporter takes it one step further, writing that Gaga will “star” in the fifth chapter of the anthology series, which the singer revealed would be called Hotel. “Make your reservation now,” she tweeted.
Just when I thought that Lady Gaga was making the turn into an actual human being. She dressed downright normal at the Oscars:
And then she drops this on our heads:
C’mon Gaga, you were having a nice run of giving me boners instead of giving me nightmares.
And now you’re going to ruin all that and go back to doing this kind of shit.
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — With his team desperate for baskets, Xavier Rathan-Mayes couldn’t miss. He scored 30 points in the final 4:38, and even that wasn’t enough to beat the Miami Hurricanes. Miami built an 18-point lead and survived the late heroics by Florida State’s freshman guard to win 81-77 on Wednesday. Rathan-Mayes scored 26 consecutive Florida State points without missing a shot. He went 8-for-10 in the final five minutes, sinking six 3-pointers, and finished with 35 points to tie his career high. “I’ve never seen that before in my college coaching career,” said Miami’s Jim Larranaga, who has coached 934 games. “Outrageous. One of the greatest on-court performances I’ve ever seen.” The Hurricanes made 14 of 16 free throws in the final 2:51 to hang on to their lead. Davon Reed‘s two free throws with two seconds left sealed the victory and left Rathan-Mayes looking glum despite his performance. “We did a great job of coming back,” he said. “But at the end of the day, it was just too big of a hole to overcome.” The Hurricanes (18-10, 8-7 Atlantic Coast Conference) won for the third time in the past four games and avenged a one-point loss earlier this month at Florida State (15-14, 7-9). The Seminoles trailed 62-44 before Rathan-Mayes scored 19 points in a span of 3:05, cutting the deficit to 69-63 with 1:33 to go. He converted a four-point play with 1:03 left to trim Miami’s lead to 73-70. Rathan-Mayes’ streak included five 3-pointers in a span of 2:35. “I’ve never really been in a game where the player just starts hitting 3 after 3 after 3,” Miami’sAngel Rodriguez said. “It was kind of frustrating.” Rathan-Mayes’ confidence seemed to grow with each shot he made. “It’s tough to describe,” he said. “You’re in an arena, but everything is quiet. My teammates kept giving me confidence, and I wanted to do everything I could to help us win the game.” Rathan-Mayes finished 10-for-19, including 6-for-11 from 3-point range. “That was a tremendous effort on his part,” coach Leonard Hamilton said. “But as a team, we should have not have been in a situation where he had to get 30 points in five minutes. We were very inept at defending them.”
This is what’s so great about basketball. At any point in time a player you’ve never even heard of can absolutely insane and turn into an unstoppable force. Every player on the floor for Miami knew that Rathan-Mayes was taking each of those shots and they were still powerless to stop him. He almost single handedly brought FSU back and he’s only 20 years old. Crazy stuff, I would have loved to see him come out on top.
PS-Does anyone know what religion Xavier is? I think he had the eye of the Jew there
NBC– A New Jersey school bus aide was arrested after she allegedly stole bagged lunches and money from dozens of preschool students. Rosa Rios, 33, of Millville, New Jersey, was arrested Friday and charged with robbery and theft. Rios worked as a bus aide for the Sheppard Bus Service. A Millville Police Officer said she was looking over surveillance footage from a school bus in the company back on Feb. 4 while investigating whether money was stolen from the bus driver. She then spotted Rios on camera going through the students’ backpacks, police said. In all, Rios stole lunch money and bagged lunches from 29 kids between the ages of three and five, according to investigators.
